Elmo Pictures
Elmo is a Muppet character from a show on television called Sesame Street. The character is all red in color and looks like a furry monster. Elmo describes himself to be 3-1/2 years old. He avoids pronouns and refers to himself using third person form. He was first seen in 1972 and Carol Spinney performed it. In 1979-81, Brian Muehl performed it and from 1981-84, Richard Hunt Performed it. Elmo kept on growing in terms of name and fame ever since.
After 1984, Kevin Clash was the one who gave it the life and energy it showcases today. He became a frequent guest of The Rosie O’Donnell Show and later on, he began the tour of talk-show circuit. Subsequent appearances were seen in Martha Stewart Living, Rove Live and The View among others. In an episode in 2005, Elmo also gave babysitting tips on Teen Kids News. Another show on which Elmo appeared was Emeril Live. He also appeared in The West Wing’s fifth season.
Elmo also appeared along with Kevin Clash on Oprah’s special episode. Furthermore, a full-length film called Elmo in Grouchland was made in 1999. Another film in which this character starred was Elmo saves Christmas. With increasing fame came increased criticism too. Its popularity resulted in a decline in the fame of older characters like Cookie monster, the Count and Big Bird etc. Hence, it raised a protest. However, Elmo is still loved by millions out there and nothing seems to affect the popularity of this character for good.
